INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – An Indiana State Police Trooper is recovering after being hit by a drunk driver.

Trooper Drew Atwell’s car was struck by an alleged drunk driver early Thursday morning on I-65 near Southport Road.

Just after 3:00 a.m., Trooper Atwell was investigating a crash with injuries when his car, with him inside, was struck by a pick-up truck.

His car had its emergency lights on and was blocking a lane on I-65 to protect the crash victims and other emergency responders.

The truck was driven by 38-year-old Dustin Boyer of Greenwood.

Trooper Atwell was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.

Boyer was not injured and was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol.
