FARMERSBURG, Ind – Sullivan County Police have arrested two men after an altercation that happened early Friday morning in the 200 block of west Sawmill Road, near Farmersburg.

Police received a call just before 4 a.m. about shots being fired into a home.

It appears that there was a dispute earlier at a bar in Farmersburg.

Police say that when they arrived at the home they found spent bullet casings and a blood trail but the injured resident, as well as the suspects had fled.

The investigation shows that the victim was at a neighbor’s house and that he had been beaten but that he had not been struck by any bullets.

The male victim and a female both lived together at the residence, and that they had been arguing, when 24 year old Tyler Gilbert of Terre Haute and 21 year old Riley McConnell of Shelburn arrived. Police believe that Gilbert assaulted the male victim at his front door, causing a severe laceration to the man’s face.

Police then say that McConnell, who was standing just feet behind Gilbert, fired a semi-automatic handgun towards the doorway of the residence.

Sheriff Clark Cottom said investigators did determine that a .45 caliber bullet had passed through the exterior wall of the residence, striking several items inside the home.

The injured man was taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital, where he was treated for facial lacerations.

Gilbert was later arrested at a residence on Park St. in Terre Haute.

McConnell was found and arrested at a residence on Shady Lane in Farmersburg.

Both are being held in the Sullivan County Jail on various charges.
