Two Injured In Accidental Shooting

GREENCASTLE, Ind – Indiana State Police were called to help investigate an accidental shooting Friday in Putnam County.

Troopers say that a juvenile was visiting with grandparents and had asked the grandfather about his handgun and wanted to know if they could go shoot.  The grandfather told the juvenile that he would have to wait and maybe they could do so later. The juvenile then went into the grandfather’s bedroom, found the gun and chambered a round.   The grandfather attempted to take the handgun away from the juvenile and the gun fired.

The bullet went through the grandfather’s left hand and struck the juvenile in the right leg.

The grandfather drove himself and the child to the Putnam County Hospital.  The juvenile was later taken to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

Their current conditions are not known but police did not indicate that the injuries were life threatening.
