Vermillion County Couple In Jail After Altercation With Police

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind – Vermillion County Sheriffs Deputies were called about a 2 year old child wandering the 100 Block of Gilbert Street in Fairview Tuesday afternoon.

The child was reportedly wearing only a diaper and t-shirt.

Police say that while they were on scene investigating, 20-year-old Kyle L. Poynter of Clinton arrived and it was learned that he was the child’s father.

Officers say that Poynter was very aggressive and recklessly sped away before finally returning to his residence.

Officers say that Poynter was under the influence of alcohol and as officers attempted to arrest Poynter, he resisted and his wife 23-year-old Chelsie Poynter attempted to pull Deputy Hall off of her husband.

Police say that the confrontation escalated, went outside the home and Kyle Poynter was tased. She continued to fight the Deputy before being taken into custody.

Both Kyle and Chelsie Poynter were arrested on multiple and various charges.

Department of Child Services took custody of two juvenile children who were in the residence at the time.
