Vermillion County Man Faces Charges After Rolling A Beetle

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind – Friday (09/20/19) around 6:00pm, Vermillion County Deputies were called to a single vehicle roll over crash on SR 71 just north of Dana.

When officers arrived they found a heavily damaged black Volkswagen Beetle in a bean field east of the road way.  The vehicle also struck a utility pole knocking down power lines. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

Police say that the driver, 27 year old Travis P. Coughlin, of Dana, told them that he hit loose gravel on the curves causing him to lose control of his vehicle.

While speaking with Coughlin deputies say that he seemed impairment and smelled of alcohol.

Officers say that Coughlin failed field sobriety tests and later tested at .15% BAC.

Coughlin had a loaded handgun in his car but did not have a carry permit for it.

He is also charged with Carrying a Handgun with out a license.
