Vigo County Council Approves More Money For Community Corrections

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – On Tuesday, Vigo County judges asked the Vigo County Council during their regular May meeting for an additional $75,000 appropriation to help more people.

Community Corrections Director Bill Watson said there are offenders who qualify for programs like work release and home detention but do not have the money to afford necessary fees.

Some of those fees cover the cost of electronic monitoring.

If eligible offenders are in these programs, then they aren’t taking up space in jail.

He, along with members of the courts and prosecutor’s office, are trying to cut down on jail overcrowding.

Council members approved the measure.
