Vigo County Man In Jail After Foot Pursuit

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Around 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, Indiana State Police stopped a vehicle with a heavily damaged windshield at 3rd Avenue and 11th Street.

The car pulled over and Police spoke with the occupants and noticed that the passenger was acting suspicious. Officers say that the passenger could not produce a picture ID and was visibly nervous.

The Trooper said as he returned to his patrol car to verify occupant’s identity the passenger jumped out and ran.

As the suspect ran, the Trooper said that a metal container was dropped which was recovered by the officer.

Eventually the suspect who was identified as 45-year-old Ernest Hoopingarner of Terre Haute gave up and surrendered.

The metal container held about 1.5 grams of methamphetamine.  

Hoopingarner faces multiple charges and will make an initial court appearance on Tuesday April 9th.
