TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – On Monday the Vigo County Election Board approved adding the Vigo County School Corporation operating referendum to the ballot for the November election.

Voters will be asked to approve a property tax increase totaling $7 million annually.

The Vigo County School Corporation says it needs the hike to address safety, health, transportation, and competitive teacher salary issues.

The corporation will also be cutting $4 million in the operating budget.

Vigo County Schools have seen a significant drop in enrollment and the cash balance in the past few years.
