VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Vigo County Commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance for standards for public swimming pools which requires an annual operating permit.

The ordinance will affect as many as 40 pools/spas.

The ordinance does not affect single or two-family dwellings with pools.

Fees range from $75 for seasonal pools open May through September to $100 annually for pools operated year-round.

The Vigo County Health Department will inspect seasonal pools at least two times between May and September, while year-round pools will be inspected at least four times a year.

Swimming pools operating without a valid permit or operating during a closure will be fined $100.

The health department this week will send notifications to those with public pools and will seek to implement the permit requirement by the end of May.
