VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  – The Vigo County School Corporation says it has just over $3 million more money in its operating account than it first thought.

Superintendent Rob Haworth says they brought this discrepancy to the attention of the Vigo County Teachers Association, and the two sides have reached a new collective bargaining agreement.

That agreement provides for $1.1 million in back pay for teachers and higher starting salaries for new teachers.

Hayworth says that the newly found funds don’t change the need for the recently passed referendum.  That will help to keep the cash balance where it needs to be due to deficit spending.

There are also proposed spending cuts. Those include closing of two or three schools, the realignment of some educational programs and more.

The cuts are still on the table and could be voted on at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Chief Financial Officer Bruce Perry has left the school system.

It is still not clear if he quit or was fired but documents that we have obtained indicate that Perry was given the choice to quit or be fired.

Former CFO Donna Wilson has returned to help in the business office on a part-time basis to straighten things out.

Officials are reviewing records to see how the money was missed.

Due to the review more than $700,000 in unpaid bills from 2019 have reportedly been found and it is expected that they will be taken care of at Monday’s school board meeting.
