WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The West Terre Haute Safety Board voted to dismiss a West Terre Haute Police Officer at a public meeting Monday night.

The vote was 2-1 to dismiss Officer Jonathan Stevens Sr. who had been on paid administrative leave following his arrest in a domestic violence incident.

He later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct.

Stevens has five days to appeal the decision and request a hearing.

Terre Haute attorney Chris Gambill advised the board that Indiana code says that they could dismiss Stevens since he was convicted of a crime.

Stevens indicated that he will appeal the decision and made claims of racial bias against board member Chuck Stranahan.
