Woman Arrested For Driving Over 100 MPH, Also Faces Drug And Alcohol Charges

VERMILLION  COUNTY, Ind – Following the arrest and earlier news release about the arrest of a woman on speed, alcohol and drug charges, more information has been learned.

The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department received information from a private citizen that the individual arrested was not Alena M. Benoit.  Police say that the woman is actually 41 year old Jenny L. Benoit, of Lafayette. Police say that she had provided another family member’s information during the initial questioning.  It was also discovered that she had an active warrant out of Tippecanoe County for possession of cocaine. Benoit remains in custody in the Vermillion County Jail on additional charges of:

  • False Informing, Class A Misdemeanor
  • Violating Stay at Home Order, Class B Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Cocaine (warrant Tippecanoe County), Felony 6

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind – Around 9: 00 a.m. this morning (3/29/20) Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Chuck Murphy was patrolling in the area of State Road 63 and County Road 450 South, when he stopped a car for speeding in excess of one hundred miles per hour and unsafe lane movement.

Police say that the driver, 27 year old Alena M. Benoit, of Kankakee, Illinois displayed signs of impairment and that she had a blood alcohol content of .15%.

While Benoit was being booked into the Vermillion County jail, police say that they found she was in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and a schedule 4 substance.

Benoit was arrested on multiple drug and alcohol related charges.
