TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A chance for you to voice your opinion on an income tax increase in Vigo County is just a few short days away.
The proposal calls for an increase of at least .55%.
The money would go toward a new Vigo County Jail but that isn’t the only way the money would be spent.
10% would be used to fund E-911 services while 20% has been earmarked for correctional & rehabilitation facilities which means the jail.
The remaining .25% is what’s called a special purpose tax.
The public hearing will be held at the county annex building on August 1st.
The council could vote on the tax increase on August 15th.
An exact location for the proposed new jail has yet to be selected.
