Owen County Resident, Vietnam Veteran And Recipient Of Congressional Medal Of Honor Receives Sachem Award

INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, Owen County resident, Vietnam veteran and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. 1st Class Sammy L. Davis received the 2018 Sachem Award from Governor Eric Holcomb.

The Sachem Award is the state’s highest honor.

The event took pace at a ceremony held at the Indiana War Memorial.

State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute), also released a statement saying

“Sammy is so humble and so deserving of this recognition. Over the years, I’ve heard many stories about his heroic actions during the Vietnam War and am in awe of all the advocacy he has done for his fellow veterans. He is an amazing man and a true American hero.”

Davis resides in Freedom, IN in Owen County which is in House District 46 where Heaton serves.
