Parke County Arson Trial Begins

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. – The trial of an accused serial arsonist is underway in Parke County.

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of Jesse Payne who is charged with three counts of arson and one count of being a habitual offender.

On April 28th, 2005, Payne allegedly set fire to the historic Bridgeton Bridge destroying it.

That same night, he also allegedly set fire to the Mansfield Covered Bridge.

Another arson charge dates back to an incident in 2002.

He was originally not fit to stand trial due to his mental status which has since changed.
