Rocky Edge On Endangered List

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – A southern Vigo County estate that once belonged to one of Terre Haute’s most prominent families has a very questionable future.

Rocky Edge is the name of the 88 acre estate in Allendale that was built by Chapman Root in 1925 as a family retreat according to the Indiana Landmarks which considers the property endangered.

The Spanish Revival – style hillside villa belonged to the same family responsible for the famous Coca-Cola bottle.

Thr landscaped and terraced grounds with rock gardens and water features, a glass-enclosed pool house with painted and tile murals, a conservatory, gatehouse, even a small private zoo was sold in 1960 and is now in danger of being foreclosed on and sold by court order.

Indiana Landmarks says that the historic property needs a new owner who’ll restore the estate to recapture its colorful character.
