Tanoos Comes Up With New Plan To Get Students To Polls

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – The Vigo County School Corporation will not be bussing students to the polls on election day but they will still be providing a way to vote if needed.

Wednesday students at South Vigo and West Vigo High Schools were driven to the Vigo County Annex by two administrators in their personal cars.

Students at Terre Haute North Vigo High School will be able to walk to a polling center right next to the school and will be escorted by staff during their lunch period.

Objections had previously been raised over using school busses because a Terre Haute North teacher is running for office and some thought it might look like the corporation, the school or possibly teachers were trying to influence votes.

Current Superintendent Dan Tanoos is forming a committee to come up with plans for the November election.

Those plans are expected to be finalized in June.

He says the committee will likely consist of the County Clerk, high school principals, school board members and student council members.
