Pending Board Approval, Haworth To Be Named Vigo Schools Superintendent

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County School Corporation is one vote away from having a new superintendent.

Thursday, Elkhart Community Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Haworth announced his resignation so that he could become the new leader of Vigo County Schools pending board approval.

In a press release Haworth said that he was accepting the position to be closer to family.

According to his biography on the Elkhart schools website, Haworth began his duties as Superintendent of Elkhart Community Schools in the summer of 2012. The Indiana native was previously assistant superintendent at Valparaiso for two years and prior to that was superintendent of two other Indiana school corporations. He also served as vice president of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

Haworth is a 1988 graduate of Greenville College and earned his master’s degree in 1996 and an administrative certificate in 2000 from Indiana University Southeast, and his doctorate 2004 from Indiana State University.

The Vigo County School Board is set to approve a new superintendent contract at their meeting on May 31st at 5 p.m. in the administration building on Wabash Avenue.
