School Shooting In Noblesville, Three Hurt, Shooter Arrested

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Friday morning police were called to a shooting at the Noblesville West Middle School.

A student armed with two handguns opened fire inside his science classroom wounding a classmate and a teacher whose swift intervention was credited with saving lives.

The shooter, who had asked to be dismissed from the class before returning with the guns, was arrested quickly after the incident around 9 a.m.  Police say that the student acted alone.

A student who was in the classroom at the time of the incident was quoted as saying that the shooter fired 4-6 shots, not at anybody in particular.

Science teacher 29 year old Jason Seaman likely averted a catastrophe by swatting the gun out of the student’s hand after he ran toward the shooting according to witness accounts.

Seaman was hit three times and was taken to the hospital in critical condition. After surgery he was upgraded to good condition.

A female student, whose name was not released, was taken to Riley Hospital and was still listed in critical condition Friday evening.

A second student was being treated for an ankle fracture at a local health care facility.

Students were bused to the Noblesville High School gym, where hundreds of parents and other family members arrived to retrieve them.

Noblesville, which is about 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people. The middle school has about 1,300 students from grades 6-8. The school’s academic year was scheduled to end next Friday.
