Public Hearing On Proposed Income Tax Hike Takes Over Three Hours

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – A public hearing was held last night at the Vigo County Annex on the proposed county income tax hike to pay for a new county jail.

The proposal is to raise the current income tax from 1.25% to 2%.

That hike would not only pay for the construction and operation of a new jail but also would send more funding to local volunteer fire departments and the county’s 9-1-1 system.

Some want to see the two issues separated.

After over three hours of comments a vote was not taken last night.

That will likely happen at the county council’s next meeting on August 14th.
