INDIANAPOLIS —  A top Indiana lawmaker was seriously hurt Wednesday morning in a motorcycle accident.

Republican House Ways and Means Chairman Tim Brown of Crawfordsville was on a trip with fellow GOP state Rep. Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) when an SUV pulled out in front of him according to GOP Speaker Brian Bosma.

It is unclear what condition he is in or where exactly the crash occurred other than somewhere in northern Michigan.

Brown was taken to a hospital in Petoskey, Michigan.

Brown recently retired from his career as an emergency room physician and has served in the Legislature since 1994.

He is married and has four daughters.
