TERRE HAUTE, Ind.- Indiana American Water filed a petition with the State Regulatory Commission on Friday asking for a rate increase to be phased in through 2020.

The company says that the additional income is needed for on-going infrastructure investments.

When fully implemented, customers using 4,000 gallons of water monthly would see a 16-percent increase meaning residential customers would see an average increase in their monthly bill of $5.60.

Before the increase is granted the IURC will hold public hearings.
