VIGO COUNTY, Ind – At Monday nights Vigo County School board meeting, members voted unanimously to terminate the remainder of former Superintendent Dan Tanoos’s employment contract.

Tanoos had stepped down for the position of superintendent earlier in the year and was the director of safety and security until the end of the year.

He had been placed on paid administrative leave after being charged with felony bribery for allegedly accepting concert tickets, sports tickets, meals, alcohol and other items from Energy Systems Group in return for his influence in securing contracts for them.

Superintendent Rob Haworth released this statement at the board meeting that said that Tanoos was offered the opportunity to meet with the officials and provide his side of the story but he declined.

The Vigo County School Corporations investigation will continue into the alleged wrong doing and what legal options may be available.

Here is the statement from the school corporation on the canceling of the Tanoos contract:

Tanoos is set to stand trial December 6th.

In other school board action Monday night, the board discussed the 2019 budget.

Superintendent Rob Haworth also talked about the creation of a bond oversight committee that would include members of the public.

The group would help oversee and advise the board on projects using bond money.
