Plaintiff Not Happy With Number Of Proposed Jailers

VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  – Vigo County leaders will be in and Indianapolis court room today to defend and explain their plans for a new jail.

The plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the county alleging overcrowded and unconstitutional conditions are questioning staffing proposals.

The county recently approved 27 new jail workers, but plaintiffs say the new staffing plan is based on an inmate population of 267 and that often times the total jail population is over that.

The plaintiffs also say staffing recommendations for a new jail rely on an outdated design, which has not been completed.

They say that the same issues may surface at the new facility.

Representatives of the consulting firm that has been advising the county on jail staffing are expected to be in attendance in court today to explain their recommendations.
