No New Jail Site Selected, New Jailers In Training

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Vigo County Commissioners met Tuesday but still no site has yet been selected for a new county jail.

According to Commissioners, negotiations for a site are continuing.

Another hearing in the federal lawsuit against the county will be held February 13th at the federal courthouse in Terre Haute.

That suit is in regards to overcrowding.

The current jail reportedly exceeded a 268 inmate cap set in another complaint.

The county did agree to add an additional 27 staff at the jail.

At last report 17 new jailers have been hired and training for those new workers is currently underway.
