VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Health Department has announced the beginning of Tire Amnesty Month.

Vigo County residents can get ride of up to 10 unwanted tires at no cost on Mondays through Fridays from April 1 to May 8.

Vigo County residents (proof of residency required) can bring in tires without rims. Appointments are necessary and can be made by calling 812-234-9181.

Tires are prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry the West Nile virus.

Semi tires, tractor tires or other larger tires must be pre-authorized and businesses, tire retailers, salvage yards, auto service centers and trucking companies are not eligible.
