scam-calls

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have received multiple reports of people being contact by individuals identifying themselves as “Duke Energy” informing callers that they have an outstanding balance on their electric bill and threatening to disconnect service if not paid.  Payment is usually required to be in the form of gift cards purchased at local convenience store.

Police remind you that you should always confirm such calls with the agency being represented by calling the published number for the agency and not the number provided by the caller to verify the validly of these calls.

Anytime anyone asks for payment in the form of gift cards should be red flag to the validly of a call requesting money.

Reports of scams can be reported to the Triad Scam Line at 812-231-1430.
