INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – The Indiana House passed SB552 on for a third reading Thursday by voice vote.

The legislation could bring a casino to Vigo County.

That third reading and the possibility of passage will happen Monday.

Rep. Todd Huston, R-Fishers, filed an amendment that could have cut the county out of the legislation entirely, but it was never brought up for a vote.

If the bill passes its Third Reading in the House, changes would have to be accepted by the Senate or compromises on differences between House and Senate language would have to be worked out in conference committee.

If the bill makes it through all of that it would then have to be approved by a majority of Vigo County voters in a referendum that could take place this fall or next spring.

Then a local gaming advisory board would forward its recommendations for potential casino operators to the Indiana Gaming Commission who would take bids for the license and the highest bidder would win. The minimum bid would be $25 million.
