TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute has named John Ludlow, adjunct instructor of machine tool technology and CNC operator training, the recipient of the 2019 Adjunct Faculty Award for Excellence in Instruction. One adjunct faculty member from each of Ivy Tech’s 19 campuses is selected to receive the award. Ludlow was recognized at the Ivy Tech statewide Adjunct Faculty and Advising Awards event March 28 in French Lick, Ind.

Ludlow has 37 years of experience in education as a teacher and administrator, and 10 years of experience working in the machining industry.

“Since hiring John, our students’ lives have never been the same since,” said David Will, dean, School of Advanced Manufacturing, Engineering, and Applied Sciences. “In addition to John’s passion for manufacturing, he assists our students in finding employment to complete the cycle. He has outstanding relationships with many local industry partners. He frequently solicits businesses for student tours and guest lectures. These connections are invaluable to students and result in our program’s outstanding job placement rate for graduates.”

Under Ludlow’s leadership, the Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) operator training program has a 98% completion rate. In addition, 92% of students who have completed the program have either been hired by local employers or have continued their education at Ivy Tech.

Statewide, 84% of Ivy Tech students pass National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS) certifications. Ludlow’s students complete the certifications at a 94% pass rate.

Ludlow has graduated more than 80 students from Ivy Tech Terre Haute’s CNC operator training program. The program prepares individuals for jobs as CNC operators and machinists and received a Career and Technical Education Award for Excellence from the Indiana Department of Education in February 2019.

Ludlow earned a Master of Science from Indiana State University in Vocational Education. Also from Indiana State University, he completed a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Technical Education and a minor in Industrial Arts. He completed an Associate of Applied Science from Vincennes University in Machine Trades Technology. He has earned five nationally recognized certifications from National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS): Safety, Measurement and Materials; Job Planning, Benchwork, and layout; Manual Milling; CNC Lathe Operator; and CNC Mill Operator.

The next CNC operator training session starts in May. Funding is available to those who qualify to help pay for program costs. To learn more, visit ivytech.edu/terrehauteworks or contact Sarah Thomas at 812-298-2482 or sthomas154@ivytech.edu.
