VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  — The Vigo County school board met Monday evening.

The board hired Bill Riley, who is currently an assistant professor of English at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, to be the district’s communications supervisor.

This is a new position that will begin July 1.

Community meetings last fall indicated a need for someone to direct marketing and communication not only inside the school corporation but with the public.

The corporation will be working to update their website and social media presence.

The corporation will also seek to better communicate with the media.

Riley was selected from a group of 30 candidates.

There were eight that had second interviews and then there were three finalists.

Riley teaches creative writing and professional writing at SMWC.

Also Monday night the board approved calendars for the next three school years.

They also heard the first of three presentations from architectural firms. One will be selected to lead future renovation and construction projects that will include the three high schools.

The next public meetings are May 15th and 16th with two different firms.

The board could make their final selection at a meeting May 20th.
