Terre Haute City Council Addresses Several Issues At Thursday Meeting

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – A lot of action at Thursday night’s Terre Haute City Council meeting.

The council approved a 10-year tax abatement for the old downtown YMCA building. The owners plan on turning the structure into quality, affordable apartment housing and they will build another small apartment building next door on an open lot.

The topic will come up again next month for final approval.

The approved the creation of the Terre Haute Arts and Cultural District.

The council also addressed a proposed animal control regulation ordinance.

This was the first reading of the revised ordinance.

One part of the proposal means that if you have a dog or cat you now must register it with the city.  If they are spayed or neutered registration will be $5. If they are not, the cost will be higher.

The ordinance also addresses beekeepers.

If you want to be a beekeeper within city limits, you must also register with the city but there will be no fee for that.
