County Council Approves Funding For Convention Center, Site For New Jail

VIGO COUNTY, Ind.  – At Thursday night’s Vigo County Council meeting, members moved two projects forward.

By a 5-2 vote the council approved of the Vigo County Commissioners recommendation for a new county jail to be built next to the city’s sewage treatment plant on part of the former Stu’s Golf Course behind Honey Creek Mall.

That site had to be approved by the county council before any purchase could be made.

The council also approved a funding agreement for a convention center in downtown Terre Haute.

The board unanimously approved the Interlocal Agreement between the city, county, redevelopment commission, convention and visitor’s bureau, and the capital improvement board.

Construction could start in later this month or early June.
