SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind – Sullivan County health officials say an employee at the local McDonalds was working while infected by Hepatitis A but that the risk of infection for patrons who visited the restaurant earlier this month is low.

The restaurant, near the corner of U.S. 41 and State Road 154, was temporarily closed for deep cleaning and food handlers were given the Hepatitis A vaccine.

As of the end of May the state health department has confirmed 1,500 outbreak-related cases in Indiana, which typically sees about 20 cases in a year.

Indiana is one of several states experiencing a Hepatitis A outbreak.

Health officials are urging people to get the vaccination for Hepatitis A.
