VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County School Corp. has announced the schedule of community meetings to talk about the district’s finances and declining cash balance.

Superintendent Rob Haworth said that there will be presentations like the one he gave at Monday’s board meeting.

He will also take questions from those attending to better inform the public about the corporation’s financial problems.

The first of four meetings will take place this Monday at the corporation administration building starting at 6 p.m.

The next meeting will be on June 24 immediately following the regular school board meeting;

Others will take place at 6 p.m. on July 8 and July 22.

Haworth is proposing $4 million in budget cuts over the next two years and a referendum to allow $7 million in additional property taxes to stop the decline in the corporation’s cash balance.

Officials say that state funding is not keeping up with expenses and additional health and safety expenses.

The referendum could be on this falls ballot and if passed would last for eight years.
