VIGO COUNTY, Ind – Tonight will be the first public forum on a proposed $7 million-dollar referendum being requested for this fall by the Vigo County School Corporation.

If the operating referendum would pass, it would mean an increase of just over 16 cents on the tax rate for 8 years.

If your house has a gross value of $100,000 you would pay an additional $53 per year.

Nearly $4 million in budget cuts are being implemented now.

The corporation’s cash balance is declining significantly and is expected to drop by as much as $8 million this year.

Tonight’s meeting will be held starting at 6:00 p.m. in the administration building on Wabash Ave.

Superintendent Haworth will make a presentation on the corporation’s finances and why he thinks the tax hike is needed.

Additional meetings will be held on June 24th, July 8th and July 22nd.
