Five Year Old Succumbs To Injuries After Parke County Crash

PARKE COUNTY, Ind – A five year old child has died as a result of injuries sustained in a Monday evening crash.

The single vehicle crash happened around 5:20 PM on Mecca Rd east of Mecca.

Police say that a car driven by 56-year-old Pamela Smith of Mecca was traveling eastbound on Mecca Rd when she went off the road, struck a utility’ pole and came back onto the road before leaving the roadway again.

A five-year-old old juvenile in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and was taken to an Indianapolis hospital where he later passed away.

An Autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday (7/31/19) in Indianapolis.

Smith, who is the child’s grandmother, refused medical treatment at the scene.

The name of the child has not been released.

Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole told us in a phone interview Tuesday evening that the investigation into the crash is continuing.

Drug and alcohol tests were performed but results have not yet been returned.
