Plainfield, Ind – A two vehicle crash claimed two lives Tuesday afternoon.

Indiana State Police say that just after 2:15 p.m. emergency crews were called to the eastbound lanes of I-70 near the exit for SR 267 for a serious crash.

First responders found a heavily damaged full size van with two occupants had crashed into the rear end of a semi-tractor trailer.

Both occupants of the van were pronounced deceased at the scene, the driver of the semi was not injured.

Indiana State Police report that they believe east bound traffic on I-70 was backed up due to road repairs in the area. The semi-tractor trailer was stopped at the back of the line of traffic when the van failed to stop before colliding with the back of the trailer.

All lanes of I-70 east bound were closed at SR 267 for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and the wreckage was removed.
