VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – A new report from the U.S. Department of Health shows that according to data from 2017, the most recent information available, Indiana has the second-highest rate of investigations for child abuse in the country.

The report also shows that Vigo County had the highest child neglect rate in the state.

By the end of 2019, it is estimated that one in thirteen children in Vigo County will need court intervention.

Local officials say that the increase in these cases are due largely to mental illness and drug abuse.

Local law enforcement is also trying harder to catch people who abuse children.
