One Killed In Interstate Crash In Clinton County When Truck Fails To Slow

unnamed-1-8

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind – One person was killed Thursday morning around 9:15 A.M. in a six-vehicle crash on I-65 southbound near the 159-mile marker in Clinton County.

Indiana State Police say that traffic was stopped for an earlier crash when a semi-truck pulling a refrigerated box trailer driven by 23-year-old Toddrick Fairley, of Lucedale, Missouri failed to slow for traffic that had slowed for an earlier accident. Fairly was allegedly looking for a bottle on the floor of his truck.  He rear-ended a Subaru Legacy driven by 54-year-old Timothy Fagley, of Michigan City, Indiana and projected them into the right ditch.

The truck then continued, and rear ended another semi driven by 38-year-old Karana Wallace, of Greensburg, Indiana which was pulling a loaded tanker. The impact pushed that truck into the rear of a Ford Transit driven by 81-year-old Ira Brockman, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky and killing her.

The Transit was pancaked between a second tanker driven by another semi driven by 45-year-old Lucica Cimpean, of Downers Grove, Illinois.

Neither tanker had any spillage.

A sixth vehicle, a truck pulling a flat-bed trailer driven by 36-year-old Jesus Alamo, of Franklin Park, Illinois received very minor damage.

Fagley was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter with serious injuries.  His wife Kim refused treatment at the scene.  Fairley was treated at IU Arnett Hospital in Lafayette and was released.  Wallace was also transported to IU Arnett for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.  Cimpean and Alamo refused treatment at the scene.

The completed report will be turned over to the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.
