LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The West Nile Virus has been found in mosquitos in Tippecanoe County.

The Tippecanoe County Health Department says it received a phone call on Monday, saying a group of mosquitos tested positive for the virus.

WLFI says this is the first time this year West Nile has been reported in the Lafayette area.

In July, mosquitoes in and around Indianapolis tested positive for West Nile. Mosquitoes carrying the virus were found in Floyd County in southern Indiana in August.

Health departments say you should take precautions when outdoors, using insect repellent and make sure your property is free of any standing water.
