INDIANAPOLIS, Ind – Governor Holcomb will travel to Terre Haute next week to lay out his 2020 agenda.

Holcomb isn’t revealing specifics just yet, but he’s said he’ll continue his administration’s focus on what he’s called five “pillars”: government efficiency, battling the opioid epidemic, building the state’s skilled workforce, economic growth, and infrastructure. In an onstage Q-and-A at the annual Bingham Greenebaum Doll Legislative Conference, he emphasized the link between those last two items. Holcomb says several regions are enjoying robust job growth, but says spreading that growth to every county requires the ability to connect to the rest of the state and to the world.

Holcomb says that goal of connectivity has been the common thread of some of the state’s biggest projects in recent years, from the I-69 extension and expansion of rural broadband to still-pending projects like the double-tracking of the South Shore commuter railroad.

And Holcomb says attracting businesses and workers to Indiana requires selling them on the quality of life in Indiana communities. Holcomb says the state needs to do more to market the diversity of its cultural attractions, with urban centers like Indianapolis a short drive from back-to-nature getaways like Morse Lake or Brown County State Park. This year’s legislature created the Indiana Destination Development Corporation to focus state efforts on that challenge.
