TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – A busy meeting Monday night for the Vigo County School Board.

The board reviewed a tentative agreement between the corporation and the Vigo County Teachers Association.

The board did not vote on the agreement last night.  That will likely happen later this week.

The board heard a few public comments about the proposed elementary school consolidation and other cost saving measures.

It is proposed that the corporation close three elementary schools and the most likely candidates would be buildings with enrollments under 300. Other factors to be considered include, building conditions, and location.

No official decision was made Monday night. There will be public meetings and committees made up of parents and those form the community will all have a chance to contribute their thoughts and ideas before anything is done.

Others spoke of concerns about changes to some of the alternative education programs.

Monday night, the board announced a new initiative for 2020.

The corporation will partner with community groups, non-profit organizations and faith-based groups to provide family-friendly activities that will take place every Wednesday night.

The hope is families will spend that time together.
