VIGO COUNTY, Ind. – Work is now underway at the new Vigo County Jail site.

Construction crews are building the road that will eventually lead to the new jail.

The new location is the back portion of the former Stu’s Golf Course behind Honey Creek Mall. It will feature space for 500 beds and space for a rehabilitation center.

The current jail has been the subject of a federal lawsuit concerning over crowding and unconstitutional conditions.

County officials hope to have the $57 million facility open for business in late 2022.
