Fugitive And Five Others Arrested In Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind.–A fugitive who had been on the run was arrested this week along with five other people in Putnam County.

On January 8, police say they were chasing 41 year old Jeffrey Brown, because he was wanted on a couple of arrest warrants. During the chase, investigators say Brown stole a truck that belonged to a company working on a bridge and a deputy crashed his car into four other cars. Brown got away that time.

But on Sunday, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says they got a credible tip that Brown might be living at a home on County Road 225 North in Greencastle.

After getting the warrant, officers searched the home, but couldn’t find Brown there. They did, however, find drugs in plain view, so they applied for a separate warrant and staked out the house, hoping Brown would come back.

Shortly after 9 Sunday night, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office says they spotted a car they thought Brown was driving, pulled that car over, and realized Brown was in the car.

Brown jumped out the rear passenger door and ran away, but he was caught by police and arrested, investigators say.

Officers then searched the home and found seven grams of methamphetamine. Five people in the home were arrested.

Brown was taken into custody on two warrants (possession of a handgun without a license in Putnam County, failure to appear on a residential entry charge from Clay County).

Police say the following were the five people arrested in the home:

-Joseph Sutherlin, 34, possession of cocaine, meth, and paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance
