VIGO COUNTY, Ind.- Last month City Councilman Todd Nation filed a proposed ordinance that would effectively ban an open parking area at the intersection of 7th and Wabash in downtown Terre Haute.
Knows as the “Crossroads of America” the planners of the new convention center want to buy the Vigo County School Corporation administration building and make it a ground level parking area to replace a proposed parking garage.
The Capital Improvement Board says now that the parking garage is too expensive to build.
Nation says that there are better uses for that area than a parking lot.
Wednesday the Vigo county Area Planning Commission recommended against the proposal to the City Council.
The Council is under no obligation to follow that recommendation.
The Terre Haute City Council meets tonight in City Hall at 6:00 p.m.
