EVANSVILLE, Ind.–Meth has made a come back in Indiana, thanks to suppliers like Mexican drug cartels. But, some determined law enforcement agents are fighting back and putting the pushers away. U.S. Atty. Josh Minkler and the DEA announced a series of arrests in southern Indiana, Thursday.

“Drugs, guns and money have been taken off our streets. Armed drug dealers seeking to infest our cities and our towns with drugs have been taken off our streets,” said U.S. Atty. Josh Minkler, at a Thursday news conference in Evansville, where the majority of 17 arrests happened.

The leader of the Grim Reapers Motorcycle Club was one of the people arrested.

“For you drug dealers, people like the Grim Reapers, do you really think you’re gonna come into Evansville, set up shop, have an arsenal of firearms and pedal methamphetamine on our streets and we’re not gonna do something about it?” asked DEA Asst. Special Agent in Charge Mike Gannon.

Minkler and Gannon said at least four high-level dealers from across southern Indiana and Kentucky were arrested. Ten pounds of meth and 23 guns were also seized by the feds and the Evansville Police Dept.

“Twenty-three firearms, illegally possessed taken off the streets,” said Minkler.

He said the dealers are peddling a product that is coming from cartels like the CJNG and the Senate Lowers. He promised that the $30,000 that was also seized, or “nlood money”, along with the guns, would be forfeited.

“The ironic part of this, these drug dealers sold drugs to make money and that money will now be used to investigate drug dealers. That’s how federal forfeiture works,” said Minkler.

“We put about 30 lbs. of methamphetamine on the table for us,” said Gannon. “Twenty-two to 23 firearms in this investigation and arrested 17 defendants. Can you even imagine the impact that would have been if that methamphetamine would have hit the streets?”

Both men urged anyone with a drug problem to get out of the cycle of needing the services of such people and get help with their addiction.
