Terre Haute City Council To Consider Councilman’s Parking Proposal

TERRE HAUTE, Ind – The Terre Haute City Council meets tonight at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall.

On the agenda is a downtown parking ordinance proposed by councilman Todd Nation.

That proposal would effectively ban surface level parking lots near the intersection of 7th Street and Wabash Avenue otherwise known as the “Crossroads of America”.

It turns out that a proposed parking garage next to the Hilton Garden Inn and the new convention center costs more than was planned and there is not enough space for it.

The Vigo County School Corporation has given indications that it might sell the current administration building  as a cost saving move but that has not officially been decided nor is there a timeline as to when that might happen.

The CIB (Capital Improvement Board) has indicated that they might like to buy the school corporation property to use as a parking lot.

Nation and some in the community think that there is a better use for the prime piece of property other than a parking lot which is the reasoning behind the proposed ordinance.
