Terre Haute Man Killed In Wednesday Night Crash

VERMILLION COUNTY – Ind – Around 8:30pm Wednesday (3/4/20) evening Vermillion County Police were called to a crash at the intersection of SR 63 and Washington Street in Fairview.

Officers report that when they arrived, they found a red Hyundai Accent and a white Dodge pick-up truck in the west-side ditch off SR 63.

The driver of the white Dodge pick-up, 32-year-old Amanda Swinford, of Clinton, was standing outside of her vehicle and advised deputies that the driver of the red Hyundai was trapped inside his vehicle.

First responders attempted to render first aid on scene but the driver, 30-year-old Ryan Sutton, of Terre Haute, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Witnesses told officers that Sutton was traveling southbound on SR 63 when Swinford attempted to cross SR 63.  Swinford told officers that she did not see Sutton’s vehicle and collided with him. Swinford also told police that she believed that his headlights were not functioning at the time of the crash.

The investigation is still on-going.  State Police crash reconstructionist were called to the scene to investigate.  Swinford was taken to Union Hospital – Clinton with minor injuries.
