INDIANA – The Department of Correction is prohibiting visits to seven state prisons because of the coronavirus outbreak.

There are no correction department staff members–and no offenders behind bars–who are known to have the virus. And yes, those visits are important to offenders, as well as their families and friends, says D-O-C Commissioner Rob Carter.

The overriding concern, he says, is to limit the risk of exposure. So for now–no visits to the state prison in LaPorte County, the women’s prison in Marion County, the Heritage Trail, LaPorte Juvenile, Plainfield and Westville Correctional Facilities or the Reception Diagnostic Center in Hendricks County.
