WASHINGTON, D.C.–Sen. Todd Young has been chosen to be part of Pres. Trump’s team for restarting the economy. Young said this week that he believes one of the functions of government is to help the American people pull themselves out of emergency situations.

“American families, workers, and job creators have suffered immensely as a result of the coronavirus. In Congress, we acted in an unprecedented fashion with broad bipartisan support to send aid to those who are hurting through no fault of their own,” said Young after being selected.

“Now we must carefully examine how to safely and effectively re-open our economy and get our people back to work while heeding the guidance of public health experts. I’m grateful that President Trump has asked me to join this task force, and I look forward to working with him and my colleagues in Congress to safely get our country back to work.”

Young said that he believes Congress did what it had to do to pass the CARES Act, even though some of the money went to special interests. He said that business owners called his office to let him know that the delay had hurt them.

Young believes the Act was a justified measure.

“Government has a purpose. Government is supposed to be there for emergencies. We shouldn’t apologize for that,” he said. “All the more reason that we keep government properly scoped so that when these emergency circumstances arise, we’ll have the wherewithal as a country to be able to dedicate to address these emergencies and be able to dedicate to getting out of them as soon as possible and get people back to work.”

Young has also called for leaders of the World Health Organization to testify before the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee, to justify their funding from the U.S., which was suspended by Pres. Trump.
